After the storm passes, it’s all about finding a dependable, permanent solution that provides shelter and will last for years. Conestoga’s log cabin kits have proved to last through damaging winds and storm surge. Here’s a quick guide to the 10 most common questions we hear from our customers.
1. How fast can you deliver a cabin kit after a disaster?
Typically, delivery takes about 4–6 months once full sealed plans are approved and all state and local codes are met.
We take the time to get the engineering right so your new log structure is ready to perform in tough conditions for decades.
2. Do your cabins meet state or local building codes?
Yes. Every Conestoga cabin is engineered to meet or exceed all state and local codes, including requirements for hurricane zones, snow loads, and high-wind areas.
3. Can we build the cabin ourselves, or do we need a contractor?
Conestoga designs the cabins for self-assembly.
-
Logs pre-cut for windows and doors
-
Notched at corners
-
Labeled and numbered to match the plans
There is also a hybrid approach: self-assemble most of the build and subcontracting certain parts like roofing, concrete, or MEP (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing) work.
4. What’s included in a cabin kit?
-
Flooring: 2×10 framing, boxboard, cabin-grade or weather-resistant subfloor, metal floor trim, and fasteners
-
Log Walls: Everlast™ kiln-dried laminated logs, gable end logs, caulking, gasket material, nails
-
Windows: Double-hung, Low-E insulated windows (vinyl or aluminum clad), bucks, trim, fasteners
-
Doors: Exterior insulated fiberglass doors, pre-hung interior solid wood doors, all hardware, trim, and fasteners
-
Roof System: Beams/trusses/rafters, ice & water shield, gable trim, metal roofing (45-year), tongue-and-groove pine ceiling boards, insulation where applicable
-
Interior Finish: Partition walls, barn siding wall boards, baseboard and door trim, interior doors, passage and privacy hardware, insulation to code
-
Porch Materials: Pressure-treated joists, decking, railings, posts, porch roof beams, roofing, and trim
-
Electrical: Wiring grommets, boxes, switches, outlets, light fixtures, smoke detectors, panic hardware (if required)
-
Pre-Cut Materials: Pre-cut/drilled logs, floorboards, roof beams, trims, and metal roofing
Everything arrives bar-coded, numbered, and matched to your construction plans for easy assembly.
5. How durable are these cabins in extreme weather?
