Installing Roofing

Now the roof boards are installed, it’s time to install the metal roofing. Conestoga’s quality metal roofing provides a forty-five year warranty. Before getting started there is one thing to know whether installing metal or asphalt shingles, felt papers first applied over the roof boards. Align first piece of felt paper, with bottom edge of roof and extend full length, attach using a staple gun or roofing cap nails. Apply second course of felt paper full length, and overlap using the overlap line found on the felt paper. Repeat the process of attaching felt paper to roof.

With a couple coarse of felt paper applied, it’s time to fasten the optional insulation purlin. Butt the first layer of purlin against the gable fascia board and align lowest purlin with bottom edge of roof. If additional layer of insulation are used to increase the R value, place additional purlin flush with outer edge of gable trim. Space purlin two feet apart. To ensure a consistent space between purlin, cut a two foot long two-by-four to use as a spacer when placing the purlin. Repeat the process of adding felt paper and purlin moving toward the top of the roof.

When reaching the top of the roof, the last purlin must align the top edge of the roof. The space between the second to last and last purlin will not be two feet, this is okay. The insulation panel can be cut to fit. Measuring cup length of purlin to fit between end of purlin an inside edge of gable trim. Now in place, so purlin extend from gable to gable.

Now that the purlin are attached to the roof or if optional installation package is not used, align L-trim room with bottom edge of roof and extend one-half inch beyond gable on each end. Now alternate place every twelve inches from gable to gable on both sides of the roof. When applying multiple length of L-trim, overlap pieces one inch.

With L-trim installed it’s time to install the insulation and metal roof panels. Using a table saw cut insulation to fit between purlin. Place insulation board from bottom to top of roof, then attached first roof panel.

When installing the first metal panel, locate edge of panel flush with edge of gable trim. Allow a one-inch overhang at bottom roof edge, a wood block can be used to assist in align the panel edges. Continue to add insulation and metal roof panels.

When adding additional roof panel, lap first river previous metal panel and newly added panel, attach an early lower channel and in each purlin moving toward the top of the roof. Glass metal panel will need to be cut, so that it is flush with the outside edge of the cable trim. Measure required panel width, allowing for rib lap to outside edge of gable trim. Measure panel and score along the measurement line, then bend the excess metal of the panel along the scoreline.

Now that the metal panels are installed, it’s time for the raking corner and ridge cap installation. When installing the raking corner, start at the bottom of raking corner one-half inch past the bottom of the roof edge. At the peak, cut the raking corner so it is flush with the edge of the opposite roof line. Fasten bottom edge into gable trim every twelve inches using roofing screws. Fasten top edge in the purlin on rooftop. Cut the raking corner for the opposite roof half and overlap as shown. Again fasten bottom edge into gable trim every 12 inches using roofing screws. Fasten top edge into purlins on rooftop.

Now they’re raking corner is installed it’s time for the ridge cap. To start the process, center ridge cap on the peak of the roof, strike a line along the ridge cap edge on each side. These lines will be used to locate and apply self-adhesive closure gasket. Using the pencil markings as a guide, apply the self adhesive closure casket to full length of the roof, just above the pencil marks on each side of the roof.

Now it’s time to install the ridge cap. Center ridge cap and extend past roof edge approximately 1 inch. Extend 1 inch on each end of roof. Install ridge cap the entire length of roof, overlapping each flank approximately six inches. Greater overlap lengths can be used if there is an excess of ridge cap material. Screw ridge cap outer edge through gasket and into metal roof ribs. At the conclusion of this last step, you’re ready to move on to the next stage.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
